Ricky Hunt - UK Writer, Director & Actor

Ricky Hunt is a London-based writer, director, performer and emcee creating genre-defying, emotionally charged work that blends comedy, music, and poetic realism.
Born to working-class parents in Essex, Ricky grew up on a farm with chaos, coal fires and cats, finding early refuge in comedy and storytelling. His work champions queer voices, working-class identity, and characters on the edge of transformation.

Fresh from his debut Edinburgh Fringe hour Pov’ to Less Pov’, a sold-out immersive stand-up storytelling show praised for its originality, interactive play, and raw heart, Ricky continues to carve a unique space at the intersection of comedy, theatre and improv. His hit clown show Fisherman Jon – What’s On the End of My Rod? enjoyed a sold-out run at Underbelly, rave audience reviews.

As co-writer and director of ★★★★★ Earth to Kurt – A Grunge Opera (Theatre Weekly called it “a masterpiece … finely tuned, perfectly polished”), Ricky’s work has been celebrated for its bold staging, immersive design, and emotional impact.

Ricky’s current writing slate includes:
-
Arrow Collar Man – a prestige 8-part TV drama about illustrator J.C. Leyendecker and his muse Charles Beach
-
Beatrice Harrison – a BBC period short about the cellist’s nightingale broadcast
-
Nancy – a tragic, operatic origin story for Dickens’s Nancy
-
Make it Count – An Irish-Deaf-Dance, coming of age story, his first feature film in development, co-written with Abbie Murphy. (shortlisted for the Soho House Scriptwriting Competition)

A former professional dancer who toured internationally for a decade, Ricky hung up his Irish dance clogs (before his knees gave out completely) and turned to writing and directing. He has since written and directed four acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe shows (Two Faced Bitchin, Beg Borrow & Bitch, Fisherman Jon, Rock Hard), consulted on clown for Garsington Opera’s Ariadne auf Naxos, and apppeared in immersive work from Moulin Rouge (Secret Cinema) to Park Chinois Mayfair.

In 2025, Ricky continues developing new work for stage and screen while building his portfolio as a TV presenter and live emcee, with bookings spanning Ibiza to the Maldives.
His ongoing mission: to create unforgettable stories that entertain, provoke, and linger long after the curtain falls.
